Rama on British newspaper The Times: “Albania and Britain, no partnership outside the EU”

“It’s absurd to drag Albania into the battle for Brexit”, says the title
of the editorial written by Prime Minister Rama as an answer to Michael
Gove, who suggested that Britain could abandon its partnership with
Europe and replace it with Albania.

“While I am a proud Albanian and a proud Balkan, I would not make a claim that we have either the political or the economic muscle to see ourselves as a rival to the EU, which has helped deliver peace and posperity in many countries, for a long time now. We cannot rival this block with a unique market, which is one the most impressive trade organization in the world. Not only now, but during all periods of humanity”, Rama said for “The Times”.

The stances of Minister Gove are seen by Rama as a promotion for Albania; “I want to thank Mr.Gove for the good dose of publicity right before the summer tourist season. It would attract more British tourists in our historic towns and beautiful beaches. We invite investors to explore the huge opportunities that our country offers for investments. British investors in Albania might follow with us the fate of our National team that for the first time is part of a big international championship. It is really a good time to be Albanian”, Rama said.

PM Rama is against Britains’ exit from the EU. “As a friend of Britain, I sincerely hope you vote to stay. There is no reason for a British-Balkan confederation outside the EU. For as long that we aim to become part of the EU, our model cannot be the one that Britain wants. I am certain that Britain in the EU is the best thing for Europe and Albania”, Rama said.
