Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that the canceling of his visit in Belgrade wouldn’t be a smart political or economic choice.
In the cooperation forum Albania-Italy, the Prime Minister valued the Italian support in the path towards integration, and mentioned the recent tensions created in the region after the Serbia-Albania football match.
“Our region is united for the European project of hope. Let’s build a joint future for peace. Balkan has had endless wars and this is the first year without a conflict. What happened in the Belgrade stadium showed the previous fame of Balkan, that of a gunpowder barrel. The tension after the match continued with declarations of the Serbian politicians. We didn’t allow Albania to fall in the level of the Serbian nationalistic debates. We are not imposed by Brussels to behave like Europeans. The Albanians have taken the role of cooperation in the region. Canceling the visit would not be the right answer, because Albania would lose more than anyone, as a country that has invested and contributed for the Europe of Fear. I defend the Europe of Hope. What consequences would Balkan have without the Europe of hope? They say that Brussels imposed us to not cancel the meeting. This was not imposed by Brussels”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister added that the unexploited potential between Albania and Italy is still huge.
“We must widen our cultural, economic and government relations with Italy”, he declared.
