As he declared on Top Channel a few days ago, the Albanian Prime
Minister, Edi Rama, presented a small government with 14 ministries,
including that of the Prime Minister, from 21 that they had in the first
term.

The structural changes are radical, with only five of them remaining the same: Defense, Interior, Foreign, Justice and Culture.

Three ministries were completely merged: Integration, Innovation, Urban Development. Others have joined with the Ministry of Finances, Energy, Environment, Health and Education.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Senida Mesi, is an MP of the Shkoder area, economist from the banking sector. She will be responsible for the government’s structural reforms and elimination of bureaucracies.

Sonila Qato, former Director of the Property Agency will be Minister for Enterprise, which will have support from PM Rama for growing the economy.

“When a businessman calls, the Minister doesn’t have any more important job. If a businessman proves that the Minister did not answer, the Minister goes away. It will not be the businessman suffering”, Rama said.

Pandeli Majko will be State Minister for the Diaspora. The former Prime Minister and former Minister of Defense is one of the classic figures of the Socialist Party. Rama also brought back Blendi Klosi, for whom many had said that his government career had ended.

Fatmir Xhafaj and Olgerta Manastirliu, Ministers of Interior and Health, will turn back to their jobs after they were replaced by the technical ministers of the DP, before elections. Olta Xhacka will replace Mimi Kodheli as Defense Minister, who, according to Rama, will now be involved with a key role at the Parliamentary Group.

Former Deputy Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjoni, will now be Minister of Justice.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi will now be Minister of Agriculture, while five former Ministers will have their previous job. Ditmir Bushati will remain Foreign Minister, but, according to Rama, he must create a new path for Albania’s economic diplomacy.

Damian Gjiknuri remains Minister of Energy. Rama says that although he is the best administrator in the country, he will be facing objectives and deadlines and will not be judged for his work only after this term is over. He will be judged periodically, based on results.

Same goes for Arben Ahmetaj, who remains Minister of Finances, but he will have to bring concrete results the soonest possible.

50% of this government ministers are women. Mirela Kumbaro will stay at the Culture Ministry and Lindita Nikolla at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
