Publishers disagree with Copyright Law Amends

The Publishers Association disagrees with the law amends on copyrights, which is expected to pass by March 31st.

Publishers say the new law is not professional and doesn’t protect them.

“The Ministry of Culture showed they don’t know the reality even this time. We proposed law amends against piracy and for copyrights. Albania has workshops today that copy materials”, said Petrit Ymeri, Chairman of the Publishers Association.

The Ministry of Culture said the suggestions were included in the final draft of the new law. The Chairman answered that the Ministry has not informed them about this.

“We have changed laws for better protection of copyrights and we guarantee that all concerns regarding the legal framework were addressed. There is room for interpretation if the new law allows abuses or not”, said Edmond Ahmetai, legal chairman at the Ministry of Culture.

“I doubt that the Ministry will have the will to reflect our suggestions in the new law”, Ymeri says.

Publishers say that if their observations will not be reflected by law, they will address the President and the Constitutional Court.
