The shocking damage made to the Shen Premte Church in Shpat, Elbasan,
was the cause of a protest in front of the Ministry of Tourism, Youth
and Sports, representative of the Forum for the Protection of the
Cultural Heritage and civil society.
They accused this ministry to keep in silence the ugly disaster, and for not taking responsibility for protecting the cultural heritage objects.
“We are very concerned by the fact that the Ministry is not protecting anymore the culture monuments, and the abandoning that the Ministry is doing to inform the citizens and the tax payers who pay their wages. We have decided to make declarations that should be released by the Ministry. This is our first step and later we will protect the monuments voluntarily to remove these people from their places and replace them with others who are able to inform the public and protect the culture monument, as their duty is”, declared Artan Shkreli.
“It is unacceptable that the Ministry of Culture withdraws from the problematic to defend the culture monuments while this is a constitutional obligation of this institution. We are here to encourage the fates of the cultural heritage and encourage the state institution to make their duty, which is a constitutional duty”, Lorenc Bejko declared.
The Socialist Party MP, also member of the Forum for cultural heritage, Auron Tare, appealed Minister Bumci to resign.
“We want the resignation of all the responsible people for this massacre, starting from the Minister of Culture, the Director of Heritage and the entire responsible system that has the right to preserve these monuments, as the law requires, and the obligation that the law requires. We ask them to resign and establish this way a precedent of accountability, because no one takes his own responsibilities in this country”, Tare declared.
Another appeal was made for the main responsible of this event, the people who did it.
“These objects have no market. I appeal the robbers to return them, because they will destroy them without being able to sell them”, declared Artan Lame.
One hour after the protest, the Minister of Culture, Aldo Bumci, gave a press release where he called the Forum of Cultural Heritage a pseudo forum, which, according to him, has only political goals. After making comparing the Socialist and Democratic government for the funds given for the cultural heritage, Bumci spoke about the role of the Ministry that he leads, for the protection of the cultural heritage and for the necessary cooperation to preserve it.
