The region of Puglia is poor of water resources, but the tap water
supply is offered 24/7. For Tirana it is the contrary. The city has
plenty of water resources, but poor aqueduct systems make the supply
limited. For this reason, the Tirana Aqueduct will undergo a financial
audit by the Puglia Aqueduct. This procedure will be followed by
investments in the network for improving the service.
Michele Emilioano, President of the Puglia Region, says that they have been requested by the Tirana Mayor to verify all losses, illegal connections and establish an economic balance with the company that manages the water.
The Municipality of Tirana say the losses mount up to 70% and citizens receive only 11 hours a day.
For the President of Puglia, the project aims to extend through the entire country, and in the future they may see the opportunity to sell the water of Albania to other Balkan countries or Italy, because of its excellent quality.
