The market at the former “Dinamo” plant in Tirana is about to be closed.
43 business subjects that operated in the area have been closed.
“There are various concerns. There is humidity and pollution. The wastes are not managed well. There are subjects that don’t have the legal permits and most of them don’t complete the conditions set by the National Food Agency. We have taken the measure to close the activity of 43 subjects. Seven subjects have been fined and 17 others have been warned”, declared Taulant Kaloi, Director of the National Food Authority.
For the first time, a task force for food safety will operate through cooperation between the Prefecture, the Tirana Municipality and government agencies such as the Nationa Food Authority. They will monitor the situation and will come out with a joing decision that might bring the closing of the produce market.
“The situation is very problematic, especially at the former Dinamo area. We suggested the National Food Authority to take a decision in cooperation with the Tirana Municipality”, declared Sadi Vorpsi, Prefect of Tirana.
“On behalf of the Tirana Municipality, I confirm that all institutions that depend from us, including the Municipal Police, will cooperate with the local government and implement the duties set by the task force. This is for us, for the citizens health and for their quality of life. I belive that with this cooperation we will give the good message that the local and central governments can cooperate for a bigger public interest”, declared Enno Bozdo, vice Mayor of the Tirana Municipality.
A few months ago, the Tirana Municipality tired to close the market and remove salesmen, which created a conflict between the Municipal Police and the National Construction Inspectorate, which had the support of the state police.
Now it seems that all structures are cooperating for the food quality of consumers.
