As announced, the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, organized a reception ceremony for the candidate status.
Present in this ceremony were Prime Minister Edi Rama, Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta, US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, government members and other personalities.
President Nishani valued the candidate status as an important station in the path towards the realization of the dream of the Albanian people, which is the full integration in the European Union. He also made an appeal for cooperation, and the realization of what he called “historic mission”.
“The candidate status is our common achievement. This is the day to reflect about the time that we shouldn’t lose. I hope and I believe that through work and determination we will open the negotiations soon. Let us all raise in the height of this historic mission”, Nishani declared.
This was the third ceremony organized by the Albanian political class for the status. Prime Minister Rama organized a similar ceremony at the Palace of Brigades, with the President as guest, former Prime Ministers, Parliament Members and foreign ambassadors.
But the ceremony was boycotted by Prime Minister Berisha and all the Democratic Party MPs, who preferred the ceremony organized by the Tirana Municipality at the Artificial Lake, announced only this Saturday and that started 30 minutes before the government’s ceremony.
