The US State Secretary, John Kerry, landed on the Albanian land at
10:00, where he was received by the President of Albania, Mr.Bujar
Nishani.
The US Chief Diplomat and the Albanian President talked for 5 minutes at the airplane, in presence of the US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu.
After greeting with the President, Kerry traveled to Tirana to attend his first meeting with the Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati. One hour later Kerry will meet with PM Edi Rama, with whom he will have a press release.
After the press release, Kerry will meet with the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, at the Rogner Hotel. AFter this meeting, Kerry will meet with civil society at the National Museum.
Officially, the US Chief of Diplomacy arrives in Tirana for the 25th anniversary of diplomatic reestablishment between both countries. His short visit will be enough to give three important messages.
As in every celebration, the biggest strategic ally of Albania thanks our country for the support, such as with the cases of the Uyghur and the Iranian opposition members who are staying at the “Freedom” camp in Iraq.
The Iranian Mijahedeens make the first point of the agenda of the US Secretary. A few years ago, the government of PM Berisha undertook to shelter 200 mujahedeen. Rama has now agreed to shelter 1000 in total, from 2800 that there are in the “Freedom” camp of Iraq.
This matter has received the agreement of the opposition, and the US State Secretary will also meet the former Interior Minister, now opposition leader, Lulzim Basha.
Another important matter for discussion is Kosovo. Kerry will ask Albania to be very active with the concerning developments of Kosovo, especially before the opposition protest before the eighth independence anniversary and the election of the new president.
