President Bujar Nishani defended his decision for assigning September 11 as the date for the local elections in Peshkopia to be held. Talking to reports on Thursday, Nishani said the date was determined by the Constitution and it would be violated if the deadlines are not respected.

“I am the first interpreter of the Constitution; The Constitutional Court is the last and final interpreter. And in its Augsut 1, 2016 letter, it has informed the President that based on the Electoral Code he is obliged to decide on the date of the new elections. This date is not decided by the President, but from a Constitutional Court ruling. The available dates from this ruling are September 4 and September 11, dates that do not change even after the full disclosure of the ruling”, Nishani said.
