President Meta rejects governments decision to fire Tirana University Rector

The Minister of Education, Besa Shahini, suspended the Tirana University Rector, Mynyr Koni. Three weeks later her decision was rejected by the President, bringing Koni back to duty.
He was replaced for less than one month by Bernard Dosti, who is now once again vice Rector. This situation has affected students as well, who think that the fight is not about them.
“It looks like a political duel between both parties. Students had requested this from the beginning, and it happened, although very late. But there it is, he is still not fired”, some students said.
The Minister of Education, Besa Shahini, reacted by saying that the President is clearly going against the public’s best interest, and is protecting those who violated the law.
The Presidency responded by saying that the Minister must be responsible for the education reform, and if they are is not happy with the arguments provided by the Presidency, they should follow the legal steps to challenge the decision.
