President confesses on “Fiks Fare”

The Head of the Albanian state commented the January 21st events of the last year, which left four opposition protesters dead in front of the Prime Minister’s office.

“It was a bitter event that no one would like to experience. In a single day we saw two horrible views, the attack against the institutions, and killed and wounded citizens”, Topi declared.

“This case is in the hands of justice now, and I hope that they will do the right thing. This is a very painful moment, but I believe that the actors of this state, the justice protagonists, will do the right thing”, he declared.

The President was asked by the hosts of the satiric show if he would vote PM Berisha or the Speaker Jozefina Topalli as President.

“Experience has shown that the President’s vote is not a secret. Regardless of what I decide to vote, other people express themselves on my behalf. Even when transparency is hidden, others make it by modifying it”, Topi declared.

The hosts humorously asked his opinion if the President should be dependant to the Prime Minister.

“There is no law that says that the President is dependant to the Prime Minister so far, but with the necessary Constitutional amends, it may happen”, the President declared.

He underlined that he will not address to the Constitutional Court for the Presidential election, for the qualified majority in three rounds.

“According to the Constitution, the President can address to the Constitutional Court, but this right is also granted to the political parties. I will not make use of this attribute as President, since there are others who have it too. The President guarantees the Constitution, but the Court is the one to defend it”, the President declared.

When asked about the voices that confirm the creation of his new party, he gave a short answer:

“Everyone speaks about my Party, except me. The fact is that the news has come from the newspapers, and not from me. We must firstly decide if we will go on that line, then we must guarantee democracy”, Topi declared.

As for his relations with the Prime Minister, he answered:

“If you want to analyze these relations, refer to the documentation that Top Channel has archived through the years. Before me, there were other President and you can easily verify the relations with each of them”.

As for the property rights, especially about the structure of the institutions that manage this issue, the Agency for the Legalization, Urbanization, and Integration of the Informal Zones/Buildings and the Agency of Property Return And Compensation, Topi declared:

“This is a concern that I have constantly raised. The infrastructure is developed there where there are problems. It seems that there are not many problems with the former landowners who have remained “former” for so many years, with their documents in their hands. Many of them have aged in courts without receiving anything”, Topi declared.

Besides the political issues, the President commented “Fiks Fare” too, by appreciating their work in the years, especially the reports against corruptive affairs of high rank officials.

“I value ‘Fiks Fare’ for the fact that you have humor in the background, but you have been an admiring mechanism of transparency. The citizens see the truth of those things that cannot come to surface. You have my appreciation as a citizen”, Topi declared, after receiving a symbolical prize from Top Channel’s show, Fiks Fare.
