The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, was received today in a meeting by the Mayor of Hamburg in northern Germany, Peter Tschentscher.
The meeting was considered by Begaj as a positive signal of interest in increasing the level of political dialogue with the state of Hamburg, as well as expanding new opportunities for cooperation.
Also, the meeting underlined the need to increase contacts and mutual visits, including the exchange of inter-parliamentary visits with the Parliament of Hamburg, or between ministries. On this occasion, Begaj invited Mr. Tschentscher for a visit to Albania.
Among the areas of cooperation were highlighted: the attraction of investments from Hamburg, professional education, maritime transport and the new port of Durrës, smart city, the fight against organized crime and illegal traffic, twinning with Albanian cities, etc.
The meeting also discussed the integration of the Albanian community in Hamburg and the assistance given by the municipality to the associations that promote the learning of the mother tongue for Albanian children there.
In this meeting, the President of the Republic was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Federal Republic of Germany, Mrs. Adia Sakiqi, Minister of the Interior, Mr. Taulant Balla, and MP Ferdinand Xhaferri.
