Pope Francis dedicate the catechism of the traditional Wednesday audience on the Saint Peter square to his trip in Albania.
After thanking the Albanian people and authorities for the reception, he described what he found in Albania.
“This visit came from the desire to go in a country that after suffering an atheistic and inhumane atheistic regime, is now experiencing the peaceful co-existence beteween religion. It was important to encourage them to continue this path in all aspects, for everyone’s good. In this meeting I had the pleasure to see the co-existence between people of different religions. This is not only desirable, but also practicable, because they practice it.
Going through Tirana and, I was able to see the portraits of the religious people killed by the communist dictatorship, for whom we have started the sanctification procedures. Albania is an example not only for the revival of the church, but also for the co-existence between religions. I thank God that gave me the possibility to meet a very courageous people that didn’t give up in front of pain. I repeat to the brothers and sisters of Albania to have the courage and build the future of their country in Europe. I would like to greet this courageous and hard-working people that looks for unification in peace”, Pope Francis declared.
Before closing the audience, Pope Bergoglio asked everyone present to applaud the Albanian people, a request that was answered immediately by the 300.000 devotees on the square.
