PM Rama to Serbia: The ice will return between us if the kidnapped policemen are not released this week

Albanian PM Edi Rama has reacted about the tense situation in the north of Kosovo, sending a message to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.

He warned of the breakdown of the Albania-Serbia relationship, if the three Kosovo policemen are not released, while he reposted the call of the American State Department to Serbia, demanding their release.

“The longer these three men are kept in Serbia, even if they have crossed the border line, they have not committed any crime, the less it will be possible for our bilateral relations not to take many steps back! This will be the week of the return of the ice between us if they are not released!”, said Rama to the Serbian president in a message.

The head of the government of Albania added that there is little time left to calm the situation and asked the Kosovar prime minister not to insist against the allies.

“I’m very afraid that the more Albin insists against the allies, the more the situation can worsen, returning KFOR forces to the top of the work! And then goodbye for who knows how long to the formal control of the state over the territory”, added Rama.

The situation in the north of Kosovo and the relationship with Serbia has been tense since May 26 when in Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, when the mayors of the municipalities were forced to enter their work offices with the help of the police, as the local Serbs opposed them.

But the situation worsened when on Wednesday, June 16, when three Kosovo border policemen were kidnapped by Serbian forces.
