Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today the data he received from the oil search in the Shpirag area, saying that it is an important discovery that can have a historic impact on the economic, social and geostrategic development of Albania.
“The oiul reserve is at 6,002 meters underground. The reserve is reached , after a very difficult exploration due to the geological formation of the area and a massive investment made due to the repeated breakage of the probes as a result of the geological formation. The interesting news is that the water, which is under the reserve, has not yet been met, which presumes that the size of the reserve could be even larger. We are not in the conditions where we can talk about concrete figures because it would be wrong”, said Rama.
He added that at the request of the oil-drilling company, the confidentiality of the data must be preserved, however, he said that he will have a public answer soon.
“The massive investment plan is being prepared for the reserve to be extracted, and then to enter the relevant infrastructure, to transport the amount of gas and oil and bring it to the local and world markets. While according to the analyzes done by the Dutch laboratory, the oil discovered in the area of Shpirag is an oil of the same quality as the ‘premium’ oil of Saudi Arabia,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister added that so far the cost of drilling research is over 800 million euros.
