Mayor of Shkodra, Bardh Spahia asked the government to declare a state of natural disaster after the floods of the last few weeks. According to reports, over 2,000 hectares and over 150 homes are under water.

Spahia was today for an inspection in the village of Obot, where there are isolated residents and the movements are carried out only by high vehicles of the army.

“We are facing a difficult situation in the area of Nen-Shkodra where the floods map has expanded.

With the residents and local leaders of Ana e Mali and Dajç administrative units, I saw closely the situation created in the territory”, he said.

According to reports, the increase in the water level comes not only from rainfall but also from the discharges of hydropower plants, which are seriously damaging some of the most productive agricultural areas in Albania.

The residents admit the situation comes not only from the rains but also from the discharges of the HPPs. The municipality of Shkodra has requested large vehicles and boats from the national civil emergencies, as well as military forces, in order to intervene in Ana e Mali, Ura Sagjica, Dajç and Bahçallek administrative units.
