Organ transplant in Kosovo

A judge panel in Prishtina, composed of one EULEX judge and one other
from the Kosovo courts, announced the verdict for the person accused of
organ traffic in Kosovo, known as “Medicus”.

Urologist Lutfi Dervishi was found guilty for organized crime, and was sentenced to 8 years in prison and a 10.000 EUR fine.

Arben Dervishi, Lutfi’s son, was found guilty for the same charge and was sentenced to 7.25 years in prison and 2500 EUR of fine. The other defendant, Sokol Hajdini, was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Defendants Islam Bytyci and Sulejman Dulla were freed on probation. The former employee of the Health Ministry, Ilir Rrecaj, was freed from all charges.

The judge panel at the “Medicus” trial has heard the testimonies of more than 80 witnesses in more than 100 trials, which have started since 2011.

Present was the Israeli doctor, Moshe Harel, considered as the brain of the organ donators recruitment, and the Turkish doctor Yusuf Sonmez, who made transplants at his clinic. But they never appeared in court.
