The head of the Albanian Special Prosecutor’s Office, Altin Dumani, was faced today for about 4 hours with numerous accusations, criticisms and ironies from the democratic opposition MPs, while he was in the Parliament to present the annual work report of the institution he leads.
Opposition MPs Tritan Shehu, Flamur Noka, Elda Hoti, Edi Paloka and Albana Vokshi did not stop the accusations against the head of SPAK prosecution, whom they see as the author of the imprisonment of the former prime minister Sali Berisha, who is under house arrest.
In the face of the frontal attack from the opposition, the majority seems to have “abandoned” the head of SPAK, leaving the opposition to ask him every possible question, including comments about the work in the direction of the institution. Head of the session, Ermonela Felaj, although she reminded the opposition MPs several times to focus on the questions, never interrupted them when they accompanied each question with inappropriate comments towards the chief prosecutor.
The only voice from the parliamentary majority that for a moment came to Altin Duman’s side was former prime minister Pandeli Majko who asked the opposition ‘not to treat him as a subordinate’.
In a 4-hour question-and-answer session, a sentence of Dumani who called him talked about ‘intellectual crime’, according to them, was committed by administration employees, which seems to have served the opposition to make fun of the head of SPAK.
MP Tritan Shehu asked: Why is Berisha kept isolated? Why is the Constitution being violated, don’t you think you are violating the Assembly? When a prosecutor violates the laws, who has ordered him to do it? By whose order was it done? The prime minister’s, someone else’s? Who is behind this game? You are violating the principles with all four legs, don’t you think that you are becoming part of politics, turning Berisha into a political prisoner?
Dumani answered: This case is in the preliminary investigation stage. You claim in this session that there are no reasons or conditions for setting security measures. Refer to the court decision. You say that there is no charge, but the court’s decision has made the criminal offense clear. You have made serious accusations in my direction.
