Opposition leader: “Albanians don’t want a democracy ‘just for show'”

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, met with protesters inside
the tent that was placed last Saturday in front of the Prime Minister’s
Office.

He visited them on February 20th, the anniversary of the day when anti-communist protesters brought down the statue of former dictator Enver Hoxha.

“Albanians took their fate on their own hands on February 20th, because they didn’t want a democracy just for show. That’s the worst of anything, because it’s followed by an economy just for show, healthcare just for show, agriculture just for show. Behind that kind of democracy hide criminals who became Parliament Members and Mayors today. We are here to renew the huge popular message: Albanians will not accept a democracy just for show. Albanians rose for true democracy, which is achieved only through free and fair elections”, Basha said.

“Now that the popular decision has been taken, we can have free and fair elections only with an interim government, without Edi Rama as Prime Minister. There is no turning back for this. There will be another big meeting”, Basha added.

The DP leader added that the unification of Albanians is growing each day.

“Time has come to kill fear and take fate on our hands. Fate can be taken on our hands by making possible that the vote of citizens is free and fair. This Prime Minister cannot guarantee it. The interim government is the only way. We wanted electronic voting for these elections, but they delayed it, thinking they can have these elections just for show too”, Basha said.
