Hundreds of citizens came out today to protest in Tirana after the multiple rape of a minor in the capital of Kosovo.
The awareness raising protest first started in “Mother Teresa” square, while artists, commentators and other public figures were also present.
Then they marched towards the Prime Minister’s Office and towards “Skënderbej” square.
The protestors demanded that the abusers be punished and that there be a reaction from the state bodies so that girls and women can live safely in their country.
Albanian actress Monika Lubonja said that the protests will continue until the punishment of the perpetrators. “We will be every day until they get the maximum sentence,” she added.
The event shocked Kosovo and prompted massive protests in Pristina. Citizens protested, demanding justice for the minor and punishment for the perpetrators, who are now arrested and in custody.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Pristina is expected to request the detention measure by the Court for the 5 accused. The suspected perpetrators are 19-year-old Shkëlqim Kameri, 27-year-old Ekrem Rexhepi, his minor brother G. Rexhepi and two minors Xh.S. of G.J.
