Nishani: Less cannabis in Albania

During an annual meeting for the war against narcotic substances, the
Interior Minister referred to an Interpol report declaring that cannabis
cultivation is still present in Albania but its expansion map has been
narrowing down.

“Cannabis is still produced in Albania and the authorities have increased the level in 2010”, Nishani declared.

Nishani also added that the quantity of seized cannabis has increased significantly.

“In 2011, the cultivated areas and production of cannabis have a falling tendency”, Nishani declared.

The OSCE Ambassador asked the police to involve the local authorities in this war.

Another 307 kg of cannabis was seized in Gjirokaster, on its way to Greece. A caravan of mules was loaded for avoiding the police. The authorities arrested two people that made the transport, and after inspecting an abandoned residence in Rusan, Delvina, they found another quantity and arrested the person that was guarding it.

The arrested were Markelian Alinani and Artur Shukulli from Delvina. Police are looking for six Lazarati cannabis owners.

In this meeting for the war against drug, the Head of the Lazarat commune, the most controversial village in Albania, declared that there are no narcotic plants in his commune and that everyone is abusing with the term “Lazarat”.
