Local Election in the Municipality of Peshkopia will be held on September 11. The date was decided today by President Bujar Nishani, just one day after the Constitutional Court rejected former Mayor Shukri Xhelili’s request to be reinstated in office.
Xhelili was discharged on May this year after the publication of a video where he demanded sexual favors in exchange for a job at the Municipality.
The Court accepted the government’s request that the video was enough evidence in order to decide the Xhelili’s exoneration was legitimate, because his actions had impinged the state official figure and harmed trust in instituions.
Election in this Municipality have gained interest because they are seen as e test for the ruling coalition endurance, in a heated political period due to the Justice Reform process.
