Top Channel’s Anila Hoxha has given details about the draft law submitted for discussion by the government, which, among other things, stipulates that “maintaining two or more marriages at the same time, or cohabitation with one or more partners at the same time, is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to three years”.
In an interview for Top Albania Radio, Hoxha said that the new code affects both sexes, as well as foreigners, while adding that alternative punishments or reprimands are also given.
“With the new code, if the changes are approved, bigamy is not allowed. Bigamy, the connection of two or more marriages at the same time is punished. After the first conviction, they are sentenced to imprisonment from 6 months to 4 years. This is for both sexes, it will also include foreigners living in Albania.
“The officials seem to have thoroughly ventured into the criminal code. There are also alternative punishments and reprimands. In the end, the court decides… You must be deeply sorry for what you did… in order to avoid punishment” Hoxha said.
