New electoral reform

A few weeks after the ODIHR mission published the report for the June
23rd elections, the leader of this organization, Convy McCormack,
returned to Tirana to discuss about the next elections.

The Albanian Foreign Minister, with whom she attended her first visit, declared that there will be other electoral and institutional reforms for the next electoral race.

“I expressed my guarantee to continue the electoral and institutional reform before the next local and central elections. It was a pleasure to meet with the ODIHR representatives and see their readiness to help Albania in this process”, Bushati declared.

The head of ODIHR hopes that the meetings will be fruitful for all parties.

“We are working to identify our priorities, so that the next elections can be even better”, McCormack declared.

The first ones are the local elections of 2015. Besides reforming the Central Election Commission, there might be interventions with the electoral law based on ODIHR recommendations.

Government bought votes in Korce

Basha with head of ODIHR: College closed one eye

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, held a meeting with the chief of ODIHR, Cony McCormack, and expressed his concern regarding the electoral process in Korce.

“The Democratic Party organized the June 23rd elections, which, according to the ODIHR report, are a visible progress in fulfilling the international standards for free and fair elections. Two or three months later, the new majority that came out of these elections are deforming the voters’ will through the vote purchase, as it was clearly seen in Korce. This is the difference between our two standards”, declared the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha.

Basha added that the institutional boycott at the Central Election Commission favored what he considered a vote purchase, and the Electoral College closed its eyes, according to Basha.

“This boycott made possible that same as in the June 23rd elections, the system of appeal did not function in Korce and the decision making was held with only one grade, such as the Electoral College, which closed its eyes for what everyone was able to see”, Basha declared.
