Negotiations for ending DP boycott, Fleckenstein and Kukan receive authorization

The German Social Democrat, Knut Fleckenstein, and the Slovakian representative of the right
wing, EMP Eduard Kukan, have now green light from their Albanian
counterparts to intermediate the overcoming of the opposition’s boycott.

The initiative of the rapporteur for Albania, supported by the Head of the Delegation for Balkan, aims to return the opposition in Parliament within this year, and work on a draft-law for decriminalizing the Parliament, which should be approved with consensus within the first semester of 2015.

This issue was one of the five concerns that the Democratic Party mentioned to the international partners. The initiative enables legal aid from European institutions for the best practice. But, after the consent given by the DP leader, Lulzim Basha, for authorizing MP Eduard Kukan, the pressure of European Popular Parties has increased regarding a public declaration and about the visit of EP intermediators in Tirana.

Nothing has been said about any agreement or any visit in the next week. Despite the good will, the respective agendas of both European MPs do not foresee this, at least for the moment.

“This could change during the weekend”, confidential sources say for Top Channel, adding that there is pressure from the European Popular Parties’ leader, Joseph Daul, and this intervention is not appreciated from the left camp.

On the other hand, after having refused any comment before the meeting with the Albanian left representatives, the Press Office of the EPP head at the European Parliament tried to correct the declaration of the Socialist MP, Taulant Balla, 48 hours after it was made public, in which he said that Webber had agreed that the opposition’s requests had all been met.
