In Kucova, NATO will build its first airbase in Western Balkans. The news was made public by the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama.
According to Rama, NATO has decided to invest 50 million EUR in the first phase of the project, which includes the modernization of the Kucova airbase.
NATO will use the base for aerial supply, logistic support, air patrolling and training.
The base, according to Rama, will also be used by the Albanian air forces, bringing this way a new standard of our army.
According to the Prime Minister, an investment of such proportions would create new chances for social and economic development in the region.
The Kucova airbase was built in 1953.
