The Head of the Muslim Community in Albania, Skender Brucaj, testified
at the Court of Serious Crimes regarding the nine self-declared imams
who are accused of recruiting fighters for terrorist acts in Syria.
Brucaj said that he had offered the list of mosques that were outside
the jurisdiction of the Muslim Community, and that their imams were not
appointed by the community.

In two of these mosques, nine of these defendants were preaching suspicious speeches for their devotees. Brucaj brought his correspondence with the Prosecution to show that there is no fact to prove their claims for innocence. The Head of the Muslim Community was interrupted several times by the defendants who insulted him as a spy sent by the USA. The judge panel was forced to take out two of the defendants’ relatives.

The defendant Gerti Pashja asked the Muslim Community leader if it is considered extremism to preach words from a book issued by the Muslim Community, the answer of Brucajw as that “no, if it preaches the base of that book”.

Although Brucaj’s testimony didn’t bring anything new to the case, his presence at the Court of Serious Crimes seems to have been exploited by the defendants to launch insults that had no relation to the accusations related to them.
