The Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta, is attending a
visit in Washington, invited by the Economic Forum of Southeastern
Europe that is held at the “John Hopkins University”.
As announced by the SMI press office, Mr. Meta and the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Ralf Gjoni, have met the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Reekers, who declared that Albania has slowed the integration agenda down in the last two years in an unnecessary way.
Reeker added that this should serve as a lesson for the future, while he reconfirmed the unconditioned support of the USA in fulfilling the 12 EU key priorities and the candidate status. He emphasized that the focus on the Action Plan is very important for the EU integration progress of Albania.
“The meeting with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Reeker, focused on the importance of the reforms that approach the country with the EU. Once again he declared that the USA are very committed in this process, while I confirmed the determination and commitment of the SMI for serving to this purpose, so that we can accelerate this agenda that now has been made concrete with the action plan”, declared the SMI leader, Ilir Meta.
Meta also met with Senator Jeanne Shaheen, chairman at the Sub-Commission for European Matters at the US Senate and member of the Senate Commission for Foreign Relations.
The discussion between Mr. Meta and the Senator was focused on the US relations with the Balkan countries, in improving the investments in the region and the role of the regional politics in Albania.
