The Serbian President, Alexandar Vucic, met with two important EU figures this week, Jean-Claude Juncker and Angela Merkel, who confirmed their support for Serbia’s  accession in the future, but only if they resolve problems with Kosovo.

“The accession negotiations could be successful if reforms continue for the rule of law, and if the relations with Kosovo are normalized. We need a contractual agreement with Kosovo”, Merkel said.

Germany is one of the two countries which have openly asked Serbia to accept the independence of Kosovo and to sign all-inclusive agreements for normalizing the Prishtina-Belgrade relations.

Vucic spoke about the problems that Serbia is facing, and said that his country is ready to accept a solution in which both sides lose something.

“Serbia cannot be the only one losing”, he said during their meeting in Berlin.

On the other hand, the Foreign Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, is continuing his efforts to undermine the recognition of Kosovo. He received a delegation from the Czech Republic “Social-Democratic Party”, which has initiated a petition for changing their recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
