The former Democratic Party MP, Majlinda Bregu, has received her duty as General Secretary at the Regional Cooperation Council, after being appointed by the Foreign Ministers of the Cooperation Process in Southeastern Europe.

Bregu says that despite the geographical borders, there is a joint interest in the region, and “cooperation” is the key word in this.

“I am convinced that together, under the political direction of the cooperation process in Southeastern Europe, and with the support of the EU, including the media, the civil society, etc, we will be able to try and make wise choices that encourage dialogue with all groups in our society. I know that it will not be easy. It will be a challenge to swim among such difficult economic, social and political situations. It is a fact that the future of Western Balkan is closely tied to the joint development”, Bregu declared.

Her candidacy had the support of the Albanian government. Besides being a Democratic Party MP, she was also Minister of Integration. She left the political life and ran for General Secretary of the Regional Cooperation Council. In April 2018, the Foreign Ministers of South-Eastern Europe voted for her.
