The vice President of the London Supreme Court, Lord Hope, decided that
the Albanian citizen, Fatjon Kapri, sentenced in absence to 22 years in
prison for the murder of Ylli Pepa in London, on 2001, should not be
extradited to Albania because his rights could be violated.
According to the British highest court, Kapri might not have a just trial in Albania, and that would mean violation of the European Convention Human Rights.
The defense claimed that the Albanian justice is corrupted and the judge panel decided that the claims for the corruption in the Albanian system should be taken seriously.
Pepa was sentenced in absence by the Court of Elbasan, for the fatal stabbing of Ylli Pepa. After being caught in Scotland in 2010, nine years running from the authorities under a false name, the Albanian authorities asked for his extradition.
