The Lezhe Municipality and the Ministry of Culture are disagreeing about the new statue of Skanderbeg, Albania’s national hero, at its city center.
The Municipality built a piedestal that was planned at the town’s main square, but the Institution of Monuments, according to the Ministry of Culture, did not allow the construction on that place, as it is considered an archaeological site.
For this reason, the inspectorate has demolished the base that was built for the statue, which created discontent among many itizens.
