The Lezhe Municipality is the only one in Albania that has built a waste
management system in which the materials are categorized and prepared
for recycling.
The implant that realizes the last process was engaged on the Clean Albania Day. The project was supported by the Dutch Kingdom and has continued for several years.
Paper, plastic and other recyclable materials are collected, pressed and then sent to the recycling factories. After the construction, the Municipality gave the management of this implant to the recycling association.
The Lezhe Mayor, Victor Tushe, says that they finalized a work that had started since 2008. The town of Lezhe is equipped with special rubbish bins for each material.
“We knew that this project would be difficult, due to the lack of funds. But it has risen awareness among the donators, such as the Dutch Embassy, which has supported the plan”, Tushe declared.
The Municipality has made a long and hard work for raising awareness among the residents, for them to categorize their wastes in the right bins, so that they can send them to the Bushati recycling implant.
