After the opposition’s protest was, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa
Mustafa, and Foreign Minister and Deputy PM, Hashim Thaci, also
candidate for President of Kosovo, spoke about the protest and the
ultimatum launched by the opposition for the government’s resignation.

“This is a big day for everyone who celebrated the Independence Day. We built the Security Forces, which are ready to turn into the Armed Forces. We have carried out economic reforms, and reached agreements with many international institutions. Our independence has been recognized by 111 countries in total. We have our own symbols, flag and identity, through which we express our sovereignty. We have always respected the national flag, but as a state we have declared our independence. We will defend our state and institutions until the end. We thank the protesters for expressing their agreement with the opposition leaders, who have spoken about illusions that put the government of Kosovo at risk. This government will continue until June 10th of 2018, and the opposition should prepare for that day by returning in the Parliament where they received the citizens’ vote and from which they are being paid, not with untrue slogans, not with violence or illegal instruments. I invite the opposition to return and argue their position in Parliament”, Isa Mustafa said.

Thaci underlined that no one will bring the government down through force, since the change is decided only by votes.

“We marked our 8th anniversary of independence in a important moment of consolidation, with strong support messages from the USA and the EU. We have signed the stabilization association agreement and we are on the right track to achieve the visa liberalization. In the meantime, the government will continue with the necessary reforms. We faced difficult challenges with success. We will work to respect and fulfill all of them through the work of institutions. Today we had the chance to sse  decent manifesattion. We believe that the sacrifices of the past, the biggest day of our country, that of the independence, will be a day of unity and not of political conflict. We have all been in opposition, some less and some more. What is happening now is the opposite of what citizens need. They started the protest with a petition that had manipulated signatures of 200.000 citizens. We will ask an investigation commission for the petition. We didn’t hear the Association or the Demarcation debates today. Because they know it is not a reality, but an improvisation for national feelings. The three opposition leaders spoke about elections. We will respect the decision of the Constitution that allows the establishing of the Association on Constitutional principles and on the principels of the Ahtisaari package. We have decided the election day and they can start preparing. But they will lose again. We have half a million voters as partners of our coalition. We willl not invite them to defend our Republic, because they are already doing it by keeping a distance. But one day we may not be able to stop them. I want to thank all protesters who didn’t respond to the appels for violence during the protests. On the same time I want to underline that not even 10% of the electorate were present today. We will continue with our agenda and priorities, by implementing the necessary standards and by respecting the Constitution and the laws.”, said Foreign Minister Hashim Thaçi.
