Kosovo is now a full member of the world’s highest football
organization, FIFA, after receiving 141 votes in favor and 23 against at
the 66th Congress that is being held in Mexico City.
The FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, announced the recommendation of the FIFA council for accepting Kosovo, which was reinforced by the Special Rapporteur of a group that was reviewing all the necessary criteria for the acceptance of Kosovo.
The Head of the Kosovo Football Federation, Fadil Vokrri, said that Kosovo is now member of the International Olympic Committee and UEFA, all they were waiting impatiently was to become members of FIFA.
His speech was followed by the Deputy President of the Serbian Football Federation, who continued the campaign against, insisting that Kosovo is not recognized by the UN, which is part of the UEFA statute.
The voting was a surprise, since it was supported by 141 countries, and opposed by only 23. The President of the Federation, Fadil Vokrri, thanked all the members for the development. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that FIFA always tries to create new bridges for developing football.
