The USA and the EU asked the Albanian political class to conclude the
justice reform within June. The OSCE and US Ambassadors, Romana Vlahutin
and Donald Lu, were present at the meeting of the justice reform
commission, where they asked a real agenda for the works.
“I asked the commission to support a real agenda for the approval of this reform. An agenda from the end of May to the end of June. Stop the political games and start concluding this reform. It is your duty”, declared the US Ambassador, Donald Lu.
Both ambassadors say that the failing of the justice reform is a shame for the relations with the USA and the EU.
“We believe that Albania has no more time to lose. Both parties, the EU and the USA, are here because we are interested for Albania. We will not allow the daily politics to damage the future of Albania. We will help it become a functional democracy. I think that things are very simple now. You have a personal and political responsibility in front of the country and your people. This is a unique opportunity for Albania. Don’t waste it”, said Ambassador Romana Vlahutin.
“I have a simple message: if this reform fails, the members of this commission shame themselves in front of the people that voted for them, and they also shame the relations with the USA and the EU. Our country need this reform. You will fail if you try to discredit the reform. You will face the anger of the Albanian people in the next parliamentary elections if you think that you can defend corrupted judges and prosecutors”, ambassador Lu said.
The Head of the Justice Reform Commission, Fatmir Xhafaj, said that the reform has had the necessary time for creating a stable project.
