Once one of the most important centers populated by ethnic Albanians, today ‘the city of the alphabet’ and the history of Manastir in North Macedonia, is mostly left in books and documents.

Reduced to a minority, the ethical Albanians here face numerous difficulties to preserve and prove their identity.

This is the reason why the journalist and author of the well-known documentary cycle “Gjurme Shqiptare” on Top Channel, Marin Mema, was part of a gathering in this city, almost completely forgotten by the government of Tirana.

Mema said: “It hurts me a lot that the Albanian state is not present, as much as it should be here. The city of Manastir cannot be only a place to visit one day of the year. It is a sacred place for our national identity.”

Journalist Mema has requested that Albanian politics in Tirana, Kosovo and Skopje pay more attention to the city where the Albanian language alphabet was created, and as he pointed out, empty words are not enough to do this.

“It doesn’t matter how geographically far we are from each other, but it is this sacred language that unites us”, he added, among other things.
