The Ministry of Interior of Italy answered to the inquiry of the Albanian Prosecution regarding the “IMSI Catcher”.
The official document signed by the highest officer of the Italian police, Gianpaolo Zambonini, informs the Albanian authorities that the equipment called “Vortex Air” was produced by te French company “Erkom”, sent to Italy by “Italarms”, and it has been used for training activities of the Albanian police as part of the cooperation against the organized crime, terror and human traffic.
An official document of the Italian Ministry of Interior says that this equipment can locate cell phones that use 2G, 3G and 4G technologis, collects the IMEI number and locates it with an error marging of 400 to 900 meters.
The official letter of the Italian Ministry of Interior explains that this equipment is used for training in showrooms and terrain.
The letter asys that the system is unable to reveal other phone activities, cannot spy audio, SMS or Data traffic.
