After meeting with the Albanian President, Ilir Meta, the Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission, Mimi Kodheli, spoke about the importance of reaching an agreement with Greece and for continuing Albania’s EU process.

“We agreed with the President that this agreement should not fail, due to the need and the merit that our country has for opening the accession negotiations with the EU. These are necessary elements that make this agreement with Greece very important”, the Socialist MP declared.

Kodheli, also former Minister of Defense, said that the Constitutional Court that rejected the agreement of 2009 has made a very clear division of the roles of the President, the government and the Parliament.

As for the negotiators, Kodheli said they did not discuss them, but they left a door open for other negotiators to get involved.

Referring to the declarations of Foreign Minister Bushati, Kodheli excluded for the moment resolving the issue at the Court of Hague.

“We’ll go to Hague only if both countries don’t agree to negotiate. There’s no need, as long as we both agree to negotiate”, Kodheli said.
