The Catania Police in Sicily has discovered an international drug market
brought from Albania. 11 people were arrested and three others are on
the run, including some notorious Sicilian mafia families, such as
Santapola.

The investigations started in 2013 show that various amounts of drugs have been brought to Italy in cooperation with a group of Albanian traffickers, by using Italian fishing vessels. The drug money were sent from Italy to Albania through a bus line.

The investigations are focused in the Durres port, where the fishing vessels with Marijuana went to Greece and then Italy. The new phone cards apparently arrived from Albania. They were used for short periods of time between the organization members.

More than four different types of drugs might have been brought to Italy through this method, with profits mounting up to 16-18 million EUR. The gang is accused of international drug traffic and cooperation with the mafia.
