During 2016, when cannabis reached its peak and the phenomenon kept spreading, the Service for Internal Matters and Complaints has investigated 40 high-level officials, suspected of being involved in this criminal activity.
The information of this structure, which depends from the Interior Ministry, has been made available to the Prosecution.
The Service has also handed over to the Interior Ministry a long list of employees involved in the cannabis cultivation, from south to north.
The report says that eight employees were arrested in 2016, but this number may be bigger this year.
This is not the first case that the Prosecution issues arrest orders for the police staff.
By February, the Prosecution ordered the arrest of the Vlore Chief of Police, Haki Hasanbegaj, and the Tepelena Police, Gani Abazi, who accused of having cooperated with traffickers.
