According to recently published statistics by the state agency INSTAT, the population of Albania is aging.

In the last 10 years the number of births has decreased, while the number of deaths is increasing.

In 2020, 10 thousand fewer babies have been born compared to the last 10 years.

INSTAT spokeswoman, Aranita Brahaj stated: “In 2020, there were 27,605 deaths, of which 12,101 were women and 15,504 men, so we see that 56.2% of deaths are of men. If we compare it with the last 10 years, it turns out that this there is a surpass of about 6,669 more deaths.

“Albanian men have a shorter lifespan than women. In 2020 there were more cases of male deaths than births. For the first time this year, another negative indicator was recorded for the male gender group, as for every 100 male baby births, 107 deaths of the same gender group were recorded.

“This shows that the population is shrinking for this gender group, but also for the female group. At the beginning of the 10-year-period we had 14-15 thousand births more than deaths, while in 2020 we had only 470 births more than deaths “, said among other things Brahaj.
