In the current influenza and viruses situation in which small children are the most affected, parents immediately take them to the main Tirana pediatric hospital QSUT, even at a time when child has a manageable temperature or when the local pediatrician is on a short path.
This is overburdening the facilities at the Mother Theresa hospital, where people have to wait hours to contact the doctor, which makes the child more likely to come in contact with another virus or decease. There are 4 health centers in Tirana that operate 24 hours, but doctors say parents do not take their children there.
“Our number 8 center offers 24 hour medical service, as well as the number 10 medical centre in Kombinat. In Laprake they have a pediatrician and the child can be treated with IV serum when needed”, urged Dr. Blerat Berberi.
In order for parents living in the outskirts of Tirana to orient themselves and learn about these centers, the Ministry of Health should find a way to inform them so as not to go to the QSUT hospital where they mmight not get the proper service as there generally are only two doctors for treatment.
