Ilir Meta mentioned in Italian recorded conversation

The Italian newspaper “La Repubblica” is publishing parts of the phone recording for the activities of Valter Lavitola, a
journalist and businessman very close to the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio
Berluskoni.

Currently, Lavitola has left Italy while police has released an arrest order. In one of his phone conversations of 2009, he mentions the name of Ilir Meta, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Foreign Affairs.

Lavitola insists with Frattini’s secretary, the Italian Foreign Minister, to meet the Albanian high rank official while he’s in a visit to Rome.

He says that Frattini has agreed for a short meeting, during the visit of 21 October 2009. For explaining who he was talking about, he describes Ilir Meta with these words “He’s keeping Berisha’s government on its feet. He has four MPs and is taking nine others”.

If this meeting was held or not, and what were the purposes of this business, it still remains a mystery. One thing is sure: during a phone conversation with the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, Valter Lavitola expresses his interest to discuss with Ilir Meta about energy issues.
