The candidate of the opposition coalition “bashke Fitojme” for the Municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri, was arrested today on May 12 in his restaurant in Himara on the southwestern coast of Albania.
An associate of justice entered into a discussion with Beleri five days ago and was given 40,000 ALL for the votes of eight people, sources from the Vlora police state for Top Channel.
According to the information, Beleri told him that there were eight people ready to whom they would be given 5000 lek each in exchange for their vote.
At one point in the ongoing conversation, the suspect tells the associate of justice that if he does this, he would give 40,000 ALL to the eight voters and 30 000 to himself. This morning, he was notified of the arrest warrant and accused of “active corruption in elections, carried out in collaboration”.
Beleri was accompanied in the direction of Himare police station and then it is learned that he was sent to Vlora police.
He was accompanied by his personal lawyer and another staff member. At the police station of Himara, Beleri was welcomed by his sympathizers, among whom was the head of the party of the Greek minority PBDNJ, Vangjel Dule.
The latter called the arrest a “pure political attack” and calls for such attempts to obstruct the electoral process to be stopped.
According to Dule, today’s detention of Beleri was orchestrated by Prime Minister Rama.
His arrest has brought reactions from Albanian and Greek politics.
According to the residents of Himara and Dhërmi, who testified to the police, they were promised 10,000 Lek by Beleri for their vote.
