The Albanian regions of Dibra and Korça are among the areas that have the highest production and care more for the cultivation of fruit trees, especially apples.

But the last few years there have been a big disappointment for the farmers from Shupensa and Gjorica, since according to them, the costs and effort required for the apples is not being rewarded.

Growers say that the market is concentrated in the hands of two or three people and the wholesalers want to buy the goods at a very cheap price, and therefore the apples are left to rot on the trees.

“There is no market, I still don’t get back the money for pesticides.

Look how many apples I have left”, says one of the growers.

Adem Kraja, who has been cultivating apples for 15 years in Gjorica, Dibra, says that the current state of agriculture in Albania is the reason why his children have emigrated and do not see the future in their own country.
