The EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, appealed the EU to open the accession negotiations with Albania and Macedonia. “The Western Balkan region needs a positive signal from the EU”, the Commissioner said.
The appeal comes before the EU Foreign Ministers meeting, this Tuesday in Luxembourg, which is held before the decisive EU meeting of the European Council Summit by the end of this week, on June 28th and 29th.
Official sources from the European Commission make it clear that Johannes Hahn, the Commissioner for Enlargement and good neighboring, appealed EU member countries to give green light for the accession talks with Albania and Macedonia, focusing on the importance of a positive signal for the entire Western Balkan region.
