A 6-year-old boy from the village of Siman in Gramsh lost his life, while his 5-year-old cousin was injured while they were both playing with an old grenade which exploded on Wednesday evening.
They were immediately taken to the hospital but 6-year-old A. Lleshi could not survive the wounds, while the 5-year-old was brought to the Tirana Trauma Hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The father of the 5-year-old, Blendi Leka, spoke to Top Channel, telling of the difficult moments he experienced when he found his son injured.
Gramsh is one of the most polluted area with communist-era ammunition. In its remote areas there are still weapons depots that were looted in the 1997 riots and a large amount of weapons and ammunition were distributed.
