The Greek Foreign Minister, Iannis Amanatidis, was asked about the
delays with the cemeteries of Greek soldiers who died in Albania by an
MP of “New Democracy”, Iorgios Vayonas, who considered the stance of the
Albanian Foreign Ministr as immoral.

According to the Greek diplomat, Athens and Tirana have been cooperating for years for this matter through a bilateral commission of specialists. A mutual meeting is expected soon in Athens, where they will discuss the Kelcyra graveyard and then will agree about the other cemeteries.

As for the number of martyrs, the Greek Deputy Minister said that only the Ministry of Defense has answers about this. The Conservatory MP insisted that besides delays, the stance of the Albanian Foreign Ministry has not been the right one in the past months. He brought as example the declaration of the councilor of this Ministry, Glevin Dervishi, who said on Top Channel that they will not consider a soldier Greek citizens found without the military medallion.

The answer of Mr.Amanatithi was that Athens will do everything possible for the bilateral matters with Tirana end before the EU accession negotiations.

“We insist that our obligations should be fulfilled. The Greek side says that it is necessary to complete all bilateral matters before starting the negotiations for Albania’s EU integration through clean elections, so that the EU accession of Albania will not be followed by suspended matters as regards the European rules”, Amantidhi said.

The Minister answered to the conservatory MP a few days before the visit of the Greek Foreign Minister to Tirana, and the talks that he expected to have with the Albanian counterparts. They are expected to talk about the War Law and problems deriving from it, which the Albanian Diplomat announced in an interview for Top Channel a few hours before the interpellation at the Greek Parliament.
